Giovanna Siniscalchi's writing is absolutely beautiful. A MUST READ." Goodreads Reviewer"Boyd was honestly such a sexy Scottish hero- when his brogue only comes out when he’s seducing or talking to babies (ABSOLUTE SWOON)." Goodreads Reviewer"Made me laugh out loud. Great heart, steam, and characters." Goodreads Reviewer"I loved all their challenges. You could really see their romance blossoming every time they were together. That wine tasting?!?! The cello concert?!?! Perfection!" Goodreads Reviewer"Another standout for me was how well-researched this book was. Historical accuracy is such a dealbreaker for me in this genre, and this author nailed it." Goodreads Reviewer"I enjoyed the refreshing scene and story. While I love Regency period romance that takes place in England, it was a nice change to read a story with the English historical romantic elements I love but in a different country setting." Beth will do anything to help save her father's wine business, even offer herself in marriage to Boyd Sandeman, the Scottish rival businessman. But Boyd has long held a grudge against Beth's father (who was cruel to him when he was 14), and sees this as the perfect opportunity for retribution.
So your mileage may vary. This book took me too long to read for how short it is, and that can negatively impact my impressions.
I really enjoyed Beth's moxie and stubborn desire to reach her goal and meet Boyd's tests. But I felt increasingly hostile to Boyd for his long held grudge and willingness to harm Beth's reputation (initially). His tasks for her felt coercive (although she was a stated willing participant). And I just didn't like him. Beth has her reasons for loving him (after three days), but... I was unconvinced.
There are a couple of chapters from the POV of other couples (I assume from earlier in the series) that will likely be enjoyed by readers of the series.
While this particular book didn't hit that sweet spot for me, I would read this author again as the setting (Portugal, wine making) was an interesting changes.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
