I did my best to keep you from crossing paths with this world. And I shall do my best to protect you now that you have. Jessamin has been an outcast since she moved from her island home of Melei to the dreary country of Albion. Everything changes when she meets Finn, a gorgeous, enigmatic young lord who introduces her to the secret world of Albion’s nobility, a world that has everything Jessamin doesn’t—power, money, status…and magic. But Finn has secrets of his own, dangerous secrets that the vicious Lord Downpike will do anything to possess. Unless Jessamin, armed only with her wits and her determination, can stop him.

I absolutely adore this cover but found it a little misleading because I think it looks more like a contemporary fantasy than historical fantasy. I really loved this book! I would have given it 5 stars except for two problems. First, I felt that Kelen needed more development as a character especially given the fact that he is the bad guy!. Second, there were two scenes in the book when Jessamin and Finn first meet and when Finn is showing Jessamin around his house that were exact copies of scenes from Howl's Moving Castle and House of Many Ways by Dianna Wynne Jones. Still, the rest of the story was unique and I enjoyed it.
