3 stars for the story itself but a half star added in my mental notes for the background. I mean, Dickens wrote this story a year after his train accident, his son claims he never fully recovered from it and what really gave me chills is that while the story talks about how the 'spirit' gives sort of warning to the signal-man of future accidents <spoiler>as the last one warns him of his own death</spoiler> yet Dickens dies exactly 5 years later, on the day of the very own train accident which he was in! That's really scary coincidence that gave me all the chills
