Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

What if the people who have the power to change your life are the ones who have been there all along… Like stars in the night sky, freckles are scattered across Allegra Bird’s arms, a legacy from her beloved father. Her legacy from her mother is more complicated – until one question from a stranger inspires a change. What if it isn’t about fitting in, but finding the people who make you who you are? Who would those people be? As she searches for connection, Allegra is about to find out that it is our differences that make life worth living – if only someone can help you to join the dots . . .

“Nothing can ever be the same when all the time we are changing.”

    Thoughts…
Stepping out of my comfort zone again, I picked up a character-driven literary fiction all about self discovery, and boy did it slap me right in the face!!

I have never read Cecelia Ahern before, but this book has been sitting on my shelf for ages and I thought ‘why not?’ First of all; we have to acknowledge how beautiful this cover is!! I actually think that’s the reason I originally bought this book (I cover buy- sue me!!). Little did I know that this book would be so impactful. We follow Allegra (Freckles) through this story as she discovers the 5 people that impact her life the most. Her journey is messy, often frustrating but also incredibly impactful. The plot was definitely an interesting concept, but I loved how emotional and challenging it was.

Our characters were a mixed bag, but boy did I love them!!! I loved the variety, the various backgrounds, and how they all came together in this medley that is Freckles life. Tristan and Genevieve were my favourite side characters 😊

This book tackled some heavy topics, with a focus on belonging, identity and purpose. We watch Allegra struggle intensely and witness some of her hardest moments. I loved how real and raw she was- at times I really disliked her, and at others I related to her. I think this makes for a fantastic novel. Overall, I think if you’re a lit fic girly, this is a book for you 🩷
