Basically, a huge list of every book I ever heard features sapphic characters.

I have not read all of these, so I cannot be sure of the amount of the time on page of the sapphic characters or of the quality of the books.

Some of these I do not plan to read at all, since they are not my style. If you feel like a book doesn't belong here, let me know.

these books use (literal) hunger as a political tool to speak to women’s oppression, repression and desire, whether through overt cannibal metaphor, speculative dispatches, or more subtle nuances of appetite in literary fiction. these women are hungry for something more, whether they’re allowed to act on it or not.

these books are both aligned with and offer a queering of ‘weird girl literature’, a genre that manipulates horror, dark comedy, and/or surrealist elements to excavate the internal world of complex and unconventional characters. they are deviant, daring, and perverse reads for the weird queers among us.

Books that are atmospheric, emotionally unsettling, beautifully written, a little weird, and linger long after you finish them.

Books where the protagonist loses their grip on reality, has strange, unsettling, and/or surreal experiences

in which nothing happens or a lot happens, but sometimes it feels like nothing at all.

also known as: lit fic that feels like a dream or a nightmare or a hallucination.

Literary fiction where one or both of the sapphic characters are pining or obsessing to great extremes

Weird, unusual, or taboo LGBTQ books that may make you slightly uncomfortable

could be queer could be horror downright wonky

for those who don't conform to the norm.

Any sapphic book that I feel falls in the category of lit fic

reading diversely is not a trend. it’s the bare minimum. and if your shelves don’t reflect that, you’re missing out.

Books that explore women's hunger (as a theme/with appetite as a key aspect of the book), whether it's ambition, power, sexual/emotional hunger, longing for a voice/community, or literal physical hunger. #girldinner
