«Historia de una escalera», originally titled «La escalera», shared the same title as a work by Eusebio García Luengo; therefore, the former title had to be adopted. It is a tragedy with strong social themes that exposes the reality of certain individuals, trapped in their miserable circumstances, from which they find it impossible to escape. The characters span three generations, and the only constant is the staircase, set against the temporal and spatial backdrop of postwar Spain.
