Could have been 5 stars, but due to an unnecessary death of one of my damn favorite characters, it will now only have 4.
It took me a long time to get through this book, until I got electronically on my Kindle. I don't know why. But I did eventually get over the hump and finish this book. There is a part of the ending that is so foreshadowed in here, that I don't know why I was surprised, but I was surprised and angry at the same time. I will finish the trilogy now that I've only got one more to read, but this is definitely turning out to be different than I thought it would when I started.

The Subtle Knife explores more of the magnificent universe Philip Pullman has imagined. We get introduced to two worlds other than that of Lyra's and each has their own unique qualities.
Firstly, I love the impression that Will's world is our own. They don't have visible daemons, they study dark matter, and they have obnoxious drivers who don't look out for children crossing the road. But honestly the world of Cittàgazze is where the new magic lies. We have new mysterious creatures that feed on adults like vampires, we have annoying murderous children and we have omelette making
