Really well written. Entertaining characters, lots of action. I appreciate, as a new reader to this world, that the author was able to introduce me to this world without info dumping or making it boring for those returning to it.
This is another high fantasy that audiobook saved for me. I tried to read a physical copy several months ago and wasn't able to connect to the story. Once I started the audiobook, I was immediately enthralled. In my experience, multiple POV's can be problematic. Often, some of the voices are clear and interesting, while others are boring or irritating. This book manages multiple POV's wonderfully. Each character is specific and interesting in their own way. I loved the twists and turns and that I am a part of some secrets that certain characters have that other characters do not know. There are a lot of big characters and watching them navigate their interactions with one another was fascinating.
I know that there is an original trilogy that would provide backstory for many of these characters, but I am not sure that I want to read those. I feel like I understand them well enough without them. I look forward to the next book.
