Recs if you like Memoirs of a Polar Bear...

i love when animals get the chance to yap and/or narrate their own stories :)

recommendations welcome!

Bears in all their shapes and forms and across genres (this includes sentient teddybears and memoirs). If not friend why friend-shaped?! As long as the bear is plot or character relevant the book can land in here. Feel free to recommend books to be added (maybe also tell me why you think the bear functions as relevant for the story). We bear bears!

The Warwick Prize for Women in Translation 'aims to address the gender imbalance in translated literature' and is open to works of fiction, poetry, literary non-fiction, and fiction for children or young adults. Only works written by a woman (original authors, not the translators) are eligible. All works longlisted since the prize began in 2017 are collected on this list.

Let the animals tell the story! I am trying to be as comprehensive as possible with the exception of children’s books, graphic novels and comics (too many to list!)-although there are some.

Books written from the POV of animals

Note: I will be deleting my PB account within the next two weeks, and I believe this list will be erased. Feel free to screenshot it if you see anything that interests you! ☺️ 3/17/2026
