Learning World History Through Fiction!
This list brings together fiction from around the world that documents historical events or periods of time. Titles in this list aren't necessarily "historical fiction" but do have an important historical element to them.
I find fiction is an easy media to help educate me about world history I never learned in school. These titles aim to bring to light historical events that may not be taught in schools!
As always, I'm open to any and all suggestions! ๐ค

Penguin's 100 Must-Read Classics
Penguin asked its readers in 2022 for the must-read classics. This is that list!

gimme them LONG classics, i wanna carry a BRICK
size matters for this list, all these classics are more than 400 pages long. they are THICK. suggestions welcome, i am a very generous interpreter of the term "classic" normally but i'm starting with the golden oldies

driving down country roads listening to noah kahan
books that feel like you are driving 60 mph down a country road on a late summer day (leaning closer to a crisp fall day) while feeling complicated, nostalgic, and a little messed up inside ๐๐
(posting because i am TOOO excited about the release of noah's new album!! additional recs are more than welcome!)

invisible string
partly inspired by toni morrisonโs concept of โrememoryโ, where the past haunts the present. these are stories where family ties, friendships, communities, trauma, or physical locations act as threads (or invisible string) to connect characters across distance or time and through generations.

the things we carry
stories about the things we carry through the generations of a family.
as always welcome to suggestions !
