Wicked Bite (Realm Enforcers, #5)

Rebecca Zanetti

Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

If you love the Dark Protectors, these wicked hot Realm Enforcers are for you! As she hunts for a drug lord killing her fellow witches, all Nessa Lansa’s instincts point to the Grizzly motorcycle club. That might be because their leader, Bear, is the strong, silent shifter type: warm brown eyes and more muscle and alpha male than any woman can ignore. Which makes Nessa’s plan to seduce and betray him all the more dangerous . . .   Bear doesn’t trust the curvy, blue-eyed witch. But Nessa can heal the injuries that sap his strength. And since he can’t stop thinking of her lush body and teasing smile, her plan to mate him to reclaim her own power is highly tempting. Just one problem. Once a desire this wild is loose, no one will ever control it . .

I’d really like to know if there’s anybody out there who read this series who doesn’t love Bear? I have been waiting (very impatiently) for his story. I really wanted to know his background and see him find his own HEA, especially after the last book when we get a peek behind the curtain. And while Nessa hasn’t been prominent in the whole series, she did snag my attention in the last story and I was hoping to see more of her. These two together are combustible.

Somehow, them not giving into to their sexual desires in the beginning is a million times hotter than if they would have fallen into bed together. And Nessa’s decision to put the brakes on her initial plans in regards to what she wanted from Bear were even hotter yet. The sweetness in that decision really made me love her even while I still wasn’t trusting her.

A lot has to happen in this story since it’s the last book in this series. Sure, it’s an off-shoot of the larger Dark Protectors series so there is a chance to see these characters again and for other smaller side stories to play out in another book. But the overall story of Apollo and the attack on the witches needs to be wrapped up in this book. So, as in the other books, there is a ton of action.

I had my suspicions here and there about who was behind the distribution of Apollo, as I’m sure is the case for most readers of this series. Those suspicions change and grow during this series and the twists and turns had me doubting myself and changing directions throughout. I loved it!

The humor this author always weaves throughout her stories is one of my favorite things. There’s a running joke throughout all of the books in the Dark Protector universe about how much King Dage Kayrs knows and how people are always shocked by the depth of his knowledge. It reaches some hilarious heights in this story, and then trickles over to Bear as the leader of the grizzly nation. So much fun infused in this bloody, intense, momentous story.

Once the villain is exposed, things move at the speed of light. Almost too fast for my brain to keep up with it all. It wasn’t sloppy, everything checks out. It was just a bit rushed so it was hard for me to enjoy the reveal in all its glory.

Overall, I adore this series. I cannot get enough of these supernatural beings and their families.
