The world thought I belonged to another man... they were wrong. He was the mysterious dark knight always swooping in to save me when I needed it most. I was the troubled girl with scars and a bleeding heart. He was the gifted guitarist destined for big things. I was the small-town girl battling her demons. He was my earth....always keeping me grounded. And I was his sky...always just out of his reach. Our love was everything I wished for. Until I destroyed it. I never thought I'd see Memphis Payne again after I broke his heart, but the stars had other plans. Because here he is...needing me to clean up his mess this time. Only problem is... Doing so will break both our hearts. They say only the strongest love can survive an apocalypse. That if two people are meant to be, they'll find their way back to each other. I hope they're right. Please note: This duet is an angsty, spicy, dark romance with flawed characters and contains material that may elicit a strong emotional response for sensitive readers.

Part #1 of the Star-Crossed Lovers Duet is intense, emotional, traumatic and romantic. There is much more than spice here in this story about Skylar, Memphis and Paul. Memphis and Paul call each other brothers because they've spent so much time together in foster care. They are connected in a number of ways, plus they also share each other's secrets. At the beginning of the book the author asks you to suspend your judgement of Skylar and the choices that she makes. She has a lot of reasons for choosing and doing the things that she does, and believe me, she will frustrate the hell out of you (I literally growled out loud at her in a couple of places) but her history of traumatic events and treatment by people she should have been able to trust explains a lot of why she thinks the way she does. One of the worst things to see happen to a character to me is that they don't grow and instead turn to self-destruction and anger like Josh does here. He's disappointing in a lot of ways and it gets worse. There is a cliffhanger here and while we mostly knew what was going to happen, it didn't make it less traumatizing. The good part is we know the ultimate outcome and can live for the good parts.
