It’s been a little over a year since I finished Marked, the book that was the end of this series. Well, obviously it wasn’t. But I’m sure when it was originally published all of the fans, maybe even the author, thought it would be. There were some novellas (Teased, Tricked, Tangled, Talen) and an off-shoot series (Realm Enforcers) between Marked and this story. I wasn’t ready to give the world these characters live in up, so I’m more than happy the author decided to continue this series.

Rebecca Zanetti always writes wonderful chemistry, and this story is no exception. At first, I thought Ronan would be the hard sell for me and that I’d click with Faith quickly. While I did like Faith right away, she wore on me after a bit. She had a tendency to tick me off with her doubting and hemming and hawing. While Ronan said and did some boneheaded things, I could understand why since he was from a time so long ago. Of course, he needed time to adjust to the way the world now works as opposed to the world of his time. Plus, it was a lot of fun to to watch Ronan adjust and read some of the antiquated and outlandish thoughts that popped out of his mouth. As for Faith, it doesn’t help that I’m one of those that is all about “for the good of all”. And the way Faith dealt with certain issues with her sister just made her out to be quite selfish.

Now, I couldn’t totally blame Faith for all of the things she did along the way. Some were stupid moves that she KNEW were dumb before she did them. But others…as a human who believes in science, I totally get it. That’s where my problem with the rest of the cast of characters comes in. I understand that Ronan and his “brothers” have a huge responsibility to keep certain things secret. That doesn’t explain why nobody told Faith about Emma, the Queen of the Realm. Emma, who in the book Claimed had her own issues with believing. Emma, the scientist and brilliant human who is constantly looking at way for immortal science to help mortals. Maybe they could have let her even meet Emma via video chat and said she was someone else’s mate. It really bothered me and seemed like a plot hole to me. Almost like I’m supposed to forget all the previous books and characters that aren’t specifically in this book.

None of the above diminishes my thirst for more in this series. I have learned to trust this author even when things didn’t seem to make sense. I’ve long adored Logan and Garrett so it excites me that it seems they’ll play heavily in these next stories. And, of course, the mirroring of Janie’s story with her daughter in this story is wonderful and intriguing. So while there were issues that bothered me in this story, there was a lot of chemistry, action, and fascinating story to keep the rating on the higher end.
