Recs if you like Mother-Daughter Murder Night...

Fiction & nonfiction books that explore the complexities and traumas of mother-child relationships or in which such relationships play a central role. While many books on this list are what I’d classify as including “mommy issues” there are others that are more about the different perspectives and nuances of the mother-child (often specifically mother-daughter) relationship. Some books center the child, some the mother, some both.

Suggestions are welcome.

It’s a cruel irony that taking a sick day means being at home with nothing to do, but very little brain power with which to read.

Enter this list, a collection of books from various genres that don’t require too much brain power but are still GOOD. Accessible prose, storylines that aren’t overly convoluted, and often short chapters or frequent break points. And of course, easy to pick back up after dozing off!

Funny or darkly comic murder books featuring bungled plans, accidental deaths, bizarre families, amateur sleuths, incompetent criminals or people who are just having the worst day imaginable.

Mysteries & thrillers for when the world is too chaotic for darker mysteries or tense thrillers but you don’t want traditionally “cozy” mysteries but still want an entertaining mystery that will keep you engaged.

Motherhood: Some days you rock it, some days it rocks you. Either way, it rocks.
