Evocative and superbly erotic, Little Birds is a powerful journey into the mysterious world of sex and sensuality. From the beach towns of Normandy to the streets of New Orleans, these thirteen vignettes introduce us to a covetous French painter, a sleepless wanderer of the night, a guitar-playing gypsy, and a host of others who yearn for and dive into the turbulent depths of romantic experience.

Honestly, I was expecting more subtlety and beautiful prose. Maybe it’s just dated, but it felt trite. I had the impression I was reading stories that were written to fit cultural expectations of what men think women want when it comes to sex. I just don’t think her stories are evolved or groundbreaking at all. Plus there is definitely an undercurrent of rape and pedophilia. Not real sexy IMO.
Not a complete waste of time, but underwhelming...

Remembering this Audre Lorde quote upon finishing this book: “The erotic is a measure between the beginnings of our sense of self and the chaos of our strongest feelings. It is an internal sense of satisfaction to which, once we have experienced it, we know we can aspire.”
