I Haven’t Been Entirely Honest With You. I know – what an intriguing title! Basically, I have had an unexpectedly difficult decade – there have been surprising joys, but also deep revelations and challenging lows. I shall be honest about those, because what I discovered in the difficult times were my, what I call, treasures. Treasures – practical tools, values, ways, answers researched from some great scientists, neuroscientists, therapists, sociologists (all the ‘ists’) out there, that have genuinely led to a sense of freedom, joy, peace and physical recovery I never would have thought possible. Life now, amazingly, with what I will share, is – SUCH FUN! (always important to quote your own catch phrases. . .) If you fancy having a read, then I hope my story might help your story. After all, we are in this beautiful, mysterious, challenging life together. Rest assured there are funny stories along the way – we will have a laugh too, my dear reader chum. Oh, and I couldn’t possibly say if there is a love story in it . . . (There is - shush) Exciting.

This book is such an incredible achievement from Miranda Hart. It has clearly been meticulously researched and taken very seriously by the author. Yet there was also an element of humour throughout – the trademark ‘Miranda’ humour that the country has grown to love through her self-titled sitcom. This gave moments of light relief during the serious nature of the topics. It was formatted brilliantly, with the main section constructed around ten ‘treasures’ and within which was many subsections. This made it an easy read in this regard and a good way to keep the reader engaged. I picked up this book mainly due to my love for Miranda and a curiosity as to what she had been living through. Knowing that it was written following her battles with chronic illness (and having never had a chronic illness myself) I was not expecting to take anything away from this that would help me personally. I was truly wrong on this assumption. As I progressed through the book I found there were things discussed that could be seen independently of chronic illness, and some of these I found myself relating to. I was subsequently reading through the ‘treasures’ with a particular focus on advice and actions that I could carry out in my own life. Overall, this was a fantastic book which I am sure will help many people and lead to a wider knowledge and understanding around conditions such as Lyme disease.
