Saevus Corax Deals with the Dead (Corax Trilogy #1)

K.J. Parker

Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

There’s no formal training for battlefield salvage. You just have to pick things up as you go along. Swords, armor, arrows – and the bodies, of course. Over the years, Saevus Corax has picked up a lot of things. Some of them have made him decent money, others have brought nothing but trouble. But it’s a living, and somebody has to deal with the dead. Something else that Saevus has buried is his past. Unfortunately, he didn’t quite succeed.

another banger from K J Parker. It’s similar in style to the Siege Trilogy and has the same kind of main character (namely witty and intelligent). Corax is very well written and Parker makes good use of a combined self deprecating and arrogant tone that could easily become grating in another novel.

I also thought the references to the Siege Trilogy were subtle and tastefully done.
