Recs if you like Monkey King: Journey to the West...

I've seen so many people say they don't read classics as they aren't diverse, and I wanted to give some suggestions that are.

This is a list of classics written by authors who are not Straight, Cis, White, and Men as the title suggests. I am also aiming to include a variety of cultures and regions in this list. If your looking for something more focused (e.g. diverse US classics) check out the lists I posted in the comments.

Suggestions are more than welcome!

Fantasy, sci-fi, & horror translated into English.

katabasis (n.) “descent”; often referring to a descent into the underworld, or the realm of the dead.

books featured in the cozy video game “tiny bookshop”

Just a fun little list of books that have inspired songs. Please list the book and the song with the artist in your suggestions, or if it's a concept album based on a book, just include the book and the album with the artist. I will not be including any books by JKR, Neil Gaiman, or Orson Scott Card, or songs by Iced Earth. Will not be adding musicals based on books, songs written for films based on books, or songs that are classic poems to music.

size matters for this list, all these classics are more than 400 pages long. they are THICK. suggestions welcome, i am a very generous interpreter of the term "classic" normally but i'm starting with the golden oldies

Books set in an Asian or Asian-inspired setting or incorporates elements of an Asian culture or mythology. Only the first book in a series is listed.

All fiction books that appear in the Tiny Bookshop catalogue! Would sort them by genre as I read along.

a collection of classic texts through the rise and fall of chinese dynasties, not including poetry. check out my list on classical chinese poetry for more on that!

a starting bibliography for the classic ming dynasty novel 西遊記 / journey to the west.

some notes on the translation: anthony yu favours a more foreignised translation style, which means the translation mirrors the rhythms and patterns of the original chinese text.

Chinese literature across genres

Inspired by some comments I saw regarding classics being too straight white male oriented. There are lots of classics that aren't, but unfortunately don't always get as much recognition. Hoping this list might help those interested expand their range of classics. Non-exhaustive and taking suggestions!

Every book depicted on PBS's Wishbone (1995–1997)

Books which have video game adaptations or are cited as heavy inspirations for them. I love both books & games as mediums & feel there is more connection between them than oft credited. Obviously, creatives are influenced by innumerable things, but it's awesome when developers, etc. share their inspirations. Please say if there are others you know of!

(almost) every book in the game: tiny bookshop

i am definitely not the first person to make this but i am dedicated to make this the most comprehensive

classic literature featuring authors and stories of africa, asia, and the middle east, mostly narrative fiction and memoirs instead of poetry/spiritual

A reading list that I thought I’d share consisting of all the books on the Brink Literacy Project’s tarot deck. I’m going for completionist and this is here for anyone who’d like to keep track and do the same, or who wants to read classic literature paired with tarot cards 🤗

(Apart from the first five, all books are in order, starting with the Major Arcana, and moving Ace to King through the Wands, Cups, Swords, and then Pentacles suit).

This is a list of (most) every book mentioned in the video game 'Tiny Bookshop'
