I believe there isn't much to add that hasn't been said yet.
This book shows the importance of own voices and POC in the book community. Only Angie Thomas could have written this book, it is more than the story of Starr, it's the story of the community Angie grew up in. In the context of the US nowadays, this is the most relevant book to read.
But I have a European perspective. I am not a US citizen or even live in the US and yet, this story moved me.
I could see my own family in Starr's family, it's so interesting to see that even if we live in different countries I could still relate to their story. That, for me, shows how powerful the narrative is. A story that you can connect with, it's always a good story.
If you want to understand the Black Life's Matter movement, I would recommend this novel.
