For those who read a lot of the romance genre, you know that the stereotypes of women in romance are just not true. They are as multifaceted as people in the real world. In fact, most are written as very strong (sometimes mentally, sometimes physically, sometimes both) and extremely competent so as to be an inspiration to the reader. There is something extra special for me when the character has a non-traditional job. Greer is a tough, smart, skilled CIA operative who has found herself in a bind. Not because she’s not good at her job. She’s excellent at her job, as is obvious since she’s been doing it for many years. Not only does her ex-fiancé, a former CIA operative himself, help to extract her from her situation, it turns out they originally met while Greer was saving Ladd. She can give as good as she gets.

Of course, this being a romantic suspense, the romance is central to the story. Ladd and Greer broke things off a long time ago when they realized they wanted different things in life. Yet neither has forgotten the other and they are quite possibly each other’s “one that got away”. Greer has thrown herself into her CIA career while Ladd went on to work in the private sector after settling down (as much as an agent such as himself can settle down) and having a family. Both are content and happy with their lives, but they also feel as though something is missing.

With sparks flying as soon as these two are reunited, they need to find a way to work together and manage their feelings and expectations. Lucky for both of them, Ladd’s life is full of friends and family that are super supportive and want to see him happy. Plus, Ladd finally pulls himself together and starts to really see their past relationship from Greer’s point of view. He really made some bone-headed mistakes and is the type of person who will admit to that once he realizes how abhorrent his stance was in the past.

This story is fast paced, gritty, touching, and sexy.
