Recs if you like An Awfully Big Adventure...

For people who are interested in a long-term challenge to read all of the Booker Prize longlisted books, but before 2001 there were only shortlisted books so I am going to separate these into two different lists. Please see the pinned comment for the 2001+ companion list link and the winners for each year!

fiction where the drama is baked in, as the plot or setting involves the theatre.

These are all books that have been turned into films, what they all have in common is that Hugh Grant has starred in them. Disclaimer: some films have been loosely based on the books.

Novels based in and around theatre

Dead white women authors are my ‘guilty’ pleasure. That is, I used to feel guilty about loving them when they were all I read. Then one year (sometime in the early 2000s), I made it a point to read only Asian and African fiction. I taught myself to appreciate books from these two continents and now I read Asian and African authors as much as I do white ones. Nevertheless, these are my favourite fiction and non-fiction books by DWM. The list will grow (I’ve read a lot of DWM).
