Recs if you like The Tusks of Extinction...

Speculative (sci-fi, fantasy, horror etc.) novellas less than 200 pages long that are either standalone or read like a standalone story

One of several Non-Humans & Empathy -themed lists by @Myth.Ink (See also: Fiction, GNs/Manga+, Non-Fiction, Youth Titles, & Creature Feature) | This list is the Official @Myth.Ink Curation edition aka, including real and fictional interactions and considerations of interactions between non-human beings of all types (from trees, animals, bugs, robots, ai, aliens, fantastical creatures and monsters, etc) and humans, empathy and/or lack thereof. | In my humble opinion, these are the best of what I am personally familiar with | Suggestions are more than welcome (and will be added to respective lists, and/or TBR).

SFFH novellas for when you don't have the time for an 800 page epic but crave that mineral. rich worlds and characters that linger in your mind. includes queer, diverse, intersectional reads. Recs welcome, this is a work of love in progress ✨

Do you, like me, often find yourself looking at a book cover thinking, "Y'all are doing waaay too much." Why are book covers so dang extra nowadays? Here are some books that appeal to me simply because they have covers that don't look like a 19 year old with Photoshop barfed a bunch of design elements on a book and called it a day. Some I've read, some are on the TBR. And to all the authors and publishers out there, K.I.S.S.

Short fantasy and sci-fi books under 200 pages. Novellas and bite-sized adventures for those looking for something fast. (Absolutely not because I'm trying to squeeze some short books in before the end of the year.)

speculative and climate fiction about where we’re going

3…2…1…. blastoff on a short novella sized sci-fi adventure. Perfect for a palette cleanser or when you are in the mood for a quick read that is out of this world.

Recommendations welcome!

I love the Pagebound community but the one thing I don’t like about the app is how it incentives sticking to popular books more likely to have a decent amount of posts. (Granted some of this has to do with it being a little new) It’s my experience however that the hidden gems or even just less popular books are often just as if not more interesting as the best sellers.

So this is my list of books with 5 posts or less that I think deserve more love.

Shorter books (around 200 pages) to get out of a reading slump or to help pad your stats. Comment if you want recommendations, I’ve read a lot of these.

For the times you want a short read or need to finish a challenge fast.

All of these are less than 200 pages or no more than 5 hours long. Most are considered novellas, but some short stories have been included as well. No anthologies or collections.

Short books to boost you to your reading goal. A lot of these are from ‘mckenna loves content’ on YouTube

I've been noticing that I reach for a lot of books that are kinda sci-fi-y and center around climate change. Some are more for sure sci-fi and some are more literary/between genres

If society ever collapsed, I’m saving room in my survival pack for these cause they feel like survival guides and history books.
