Katie Ruggle is a genius. Throughout this series, the reader has gotten to know the K9 officers of Monroe, Colorado, as well as their significant others. The author blew me away with the way she brought Kit into the mix and helped the reader to understand the feelings of being an outsider Kit would have in such an environment. Of course, we know why the guys and their gals would be so secretive. We understand why they would be protective of Elena. We get the fear of outsiders they whole gang naturally has at this point. To Kit, it feels as if she’s being shunned and her instincts are being dismissed.
The silver lining of her new job in Monroe for Kit is meeting the burly fire spotter, Wes. Oh, Wes. Beautiful, awkward, brilliant, geeky, lovable Wes. I don’t know that I’ve read another hero so endearing with his lack of social skills. Another thing that struck me about this story is the author didn’t define Wes. Which means I’m not going to define him. Just know he is gloriously different and very specific. His was of looking at the world brought a smile to my face over and over.
Not only did I love Kit’s instincts, I also loved her way with kids. Jules’ siblings took to her immediately and all of the dogs love her, how can you deny that’s a good person? On top of all of that, Kit and Wes have the sweetest chemistry. They’re both unsure of themselves win it comes to romantic relationships yet somehow help each other over any awkward bumps in the road that they hit along the way. Their relationship develops in the innocent way of a middle school couple with all of the maturity and life experience of being an adult thrown in. I thoroughly enjoyed watching them come together.
While I’m not sure if this is the last story of the series, I know I will be seeking out more books by this author. She always hooks me from the start and keeps me turning pages.
0I did enjoy this installment from Katie Ruggle. I really liked Kit a lot. Her personality really showed through and I liked that Wes's quirks are amusing to her in an attraction way. I liked the two of them a lot. The villain in this title was a little disappointing in that you know pretty quickly who they are. With that being said, I liked who the villain was and how they operated. I wish that in not knowing so soon you would have been able to play Kit's interactions more.
