    Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

As much as I fell in love with all of the K9 cops when I read Run to Ground, I didn’t realize that Hugh was going to steal my heart so deeply. That quick wit that doesn’t stop and gets annoying? Yep, that’s my husband. I love him, but the man drives me bananas. It was fun to watch Kaylee/Grace go from annoyance to acceptance to missing that banter when he wasn’t around.

Grace’s situation is much different from what Jules is running from in the first book (and still). Grace’s life is in danger. She saw things she wishes she could unsee, but she can’t. And those things make her a witness against a pretty powerful man. Unfortunately, he’s powerful enough to have people of authority in his pocket so she is unsure who she can trust. Thus, she runs far, far away.

Of course Hugh, Theo, and Otto are suspicious of Jules’ “childhood friend” as soon as she hits town. They still know there’s some mystery that Jules and the kids are hiding, but have come to know and love her enough to trust her and not go digging into her life. But can they trust Grace? They want to know what she’s hiding. Soon it’s obvious that Grace may not be the only one in danger, has her past followed her also putting Jules and the rest of her family in danger just by association?

Just like the first story in this series, this story is action packed. So many things happen to Hugh and Grace it’s hard to know where the danger is coming from. Yet at no time does it get confusing or convoluted. The author did a beautiful job of keeping the flow of the story smooth while keeping the suspense high.

I don’t want to say too much since it is a suspense book, but I have to say that Otto is an even bigger pull for me for the next book. What the heck is this guy about? His house is something else and I’m curious to find out how he came about having such a place. And, although it seems Grace’s story may be wrapped up, there are still so many things left up in the air when it comes to all the people living in Jules’ house. I’m looking forward to each new discovery.
