Três amigos universitários - Rindu, Martina e Mário - decidem aventurar-se numa expedição às cavernas do Vale da Ribeira. Ao explorarem o interior de uma gruta, são pegos de surpresa por uma enchente e ficam presos por três dias. Quando finalmente retornam a São Paulo, descobrem que as pessoas se transformaram em estátuas. A cidade, na verdade, o mundo, foi atingido por algo inexplicável. Os únicos "sobreviventes" são eles. O que aconteceu? O que fazer? É o que se perguntam, atônitos, os personagens da história. Até que as perguntas se tornam inúteis. Dividido em seis capítulos, quatro deles referentes às estações do ano, Blecaute narra as transformações por que passam os jovens, à medida que tentam entender o sentido de tudo aquilo e encontrar lógica na vida que estão vivendo. Enquanto transporta o leitor para um cenário perturbador e fantástico, o narrador Rindu também repassa a sua vida: a infância, a relação com os pais, os amigos, a escola, as namoradas.
I first read this book when I was 13 in a Portuguese class. I can say it was the first book I ever read out of interest and not because I had to for school. I’ve thought about this book often since my teenage years; maybe because I’ve always imagined a world without people, a post-apocalyptic scenario. What would I do? Could I survive? It’s a topic that has always intrigued me, and I still love it to this day. From time to time I reread this book. Too bad this book was never translated into English.
