Down The Rabbit Hole (Love Down Under #4)

Cynthia Terelst

Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

Love and secrets are a tricky combination For Emily, going home isn’t easy, especially when her small town never felt like home in the first place. She escaped Alma seven years ago when she went to university, but now her estranged father needs her help. At least returning means spending time with the only good thing in town—her best friend, Luke. Luke always knew Emily needed to be free of their hometown, so he withheld his true feelings. Even though she has returned, he knows she will never stay. He tries hard to respect the boundaries of their friendship but every moment they spend together makes it harder to deny their connection. Self-control dissipates. One kiss turns into two… But is Luke really the man Emily remembers? When Emily discovers Luke has betrayed her trust, they could lose the most precious thing of all—each other. **This is a stand alone romance with medium heat**

I’d heard of Terelst but not gotten around to reading her books—what was I waiting for?! I absolutely love a drama-riddled small town and that’s exactly what I got here.

So much petty to resent, a town full of close-minded antagonists to hate, the loyal best friend who silently yearns to be more … the very misunderstood parent … This was very well executed, taking place mostly in the present but fairly often giving glimpses into the past so the reader gets to see the big picture and know more about the characters than even they do at times.

This author has a knack for storytelling and drawing out real feels and I cannot wait to read more from her.

I also enjoyed the subplot of environmental advocates and those who oppose them, and feel I’ve learned a bit about agriculture and greener practices. I noticed other reviewers complaining about this but I felt it only added positively to the plot and enjoyed it quite a bit.

Character development was advanced with some growing as the reader watched. This seems to be an art Terelst has mastered.

    Very well done!

I missed it when I set it down to do other things and it left me wanting more (but wrapped things up neatly). All the makings of a great read.

    4.5 stars.
