When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder― much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing―not even a smear of blood―to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy? This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. It took me a minute to get into it but once I got hooked I couldn't put it down. Such a great book!
Ok yes, definitely followed and enjoyed this reread much better! Sometimes it’s just the time and headspace you’re in that helps with the reading experience. I remember watching a booktuber and she was reading this book and then said ew ew gross, annnnnd I could not for the life of me remember what she could’ve been referring to. Then it happened and yes 100% eww and I hope it changes within book 2! I am committed to seeing this series through, much more enjoyable than TOG personally. It reads as YA but the characters are digestible and lots of comic relief. And excited to learn more about the side characters also!
