Once they finally break away from their soul-searing kiss, they find themselves alone—and shaken. Had they imagined their explosive chemistry? Obstacles—ranging from a death sentence to exile in a war-torn dimension—threaten to destroy their lives . . . and the vulnerable promise in that one kiss. How long can they resist the fire that blazes between them? Even if Mirceo can accept Caspion as his fated mate, the seductive vampire still must convince the stubborn demon that their bond is forever. And any royal Dacian union must receive the blessing of King Lothaire, an unpredictable and savage killer...

This is without a doubt Cole's weakest book, and no it is NOT because it is M/M romance. I was actually looking forward to this as I actually really adore Cole's world building and plotting, and character dynamics, so I wanted to see what she would do with a same sex couple.
The way she intricately connects all of her stories together in the Immortals After Dark series is phenomenal! This unfortunately felt so completely disconnected from the over arching story that connects each book that it feels like its not even part of the same world. It wasn't even until the very end that it stated to feel like it was in the same world. This was mostly just one man striving extremely hard to get this other man to sleep with him. This was very heavy on the sex aspect, and I get that she was working with having these characters be very sexually active in their down time and there is nothing wrong with that, but because of this there was basically no plot through the whole story. The plot was literally just one man trying to sleep with another, and I feel this really did a disservice to her writing skills.
While the series has its problematic moments and questionable characters, I do think her character building is strong, but these guys where just a bore, they just were not interesting in anyway. So on top of no plot, uninteresting characters and lack of connection to her overall story, this just felt like a waste of my time. It is short and easy to get through but there isn't anything to it honestly. I will say it does do a semi-decent job setting up Kosmina's story but this doesn't happen until the very end and then it just ends, and of course Lothaire was present at the end and he is always great to see. but even those doesn't help bring this up any higher for me.
