books i got lost in during quiet reading time as a kid (and maybe you did too)

Quiet, comforting stories about solitude, small routines, and creating a space of your own, whether it’s a garden, a home, or just a way of moving through the world.

Middle grade and YA novels whose main characters are artists. Recommendations are always welcome — the only requirement is that the main character must be some sort of artist (painters, writers, dancers, musicians, chefs, and more are all acceptable) and that their love of art must play a key role in the plot.

Books that give summer vibes, are nice to read in the season, have vivid descriptions of the season or weather as a significant part of their plot, or otherwise take place in summer.

A curated assortment of clean, age-appropriate books for girls ages 11-14, featuring picks from across genres, all with younger protagonists, light or no romance, and minimal heavy content; perfect for readers transitioning between middle grade and young adult who want engaging stories that feel safe, fun, and comfortable.

Let’s return to simpler times, where some of the best and most impactful stories can be found.

middle grade adventures! recs welcome :)

there’s a special place in my heart for middle grade novels. i think they have the hardest audience—they’re written for a group defined by transition, bridging the gap between childhood and adolescence by creating space in the in-between. when done well, their universal themes (like change!) and prose make the books translatable to any age. since it feels like that should be impossible, i’m convinced authors of this age group are geniuses.
