Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

When a silly, impulsive decision lands free-spirited India Shaw behind bars in San Francisco, she has no choice but to call the only person she knows in the unfamiliar city—the very man she abandoned after a steamy two-day fling. The fact that she’s pregnant with his child is something she’d rather not divulge. Tech executive Michael Black never thought he’d hear from the quirky beauty after she left his bed four months ago, much less be called upon to post bail. He’s got his hands full with a corporate merger that could make or break his career, but his honorable nature—and an overwhelming need to see her again—means he can’t just leave her in jail. And when India reveals the truth about her pregnancy, Mike insists she stay with him until the baby is born.India doesn’t want to depend on him for anything, but their constant proximity stirs up feelings she can’t ignore. She’s never desired a family before and she knows a future with Mike isn’t possible . . . but then along came love to shake up all her plans.

Along Came Love by Tracey Livesay

    Key Terms: contemporary

Tropes: secret baby, one night stand (weekend)

Steam Rating: 4 out of 5

Overall Rating: 4 out of 5

Indi is pregnant after a weekend hookup with Michael, her new brother in laws best friend. She snuck out of Mike’s house at the end of the weekend and didn’t expect to see him again. Indi is arrested for what is breaking and entering, but is really just a big misunderstanding. Her sister is out of town on her honeymoon, so there is only one person Indi can call to get her out of jail, Mike.

Indi and Mike have chemistry, but they also lead incredibly different lives. Their entire situation is made even more complicated, because Mike now has a girlfriend who he is planning on marrying! When Indi comes back into his life, Mike starts to question his ten year plan (yes, ten), but it really irritated me how often he pointed out (even in inner dialogue) how Indi “was not his type”. We get it Mike, you want a stepford wife, but that’s not what you’re going to get buddy, so you better buckle up! Indi values her independence, prefers to travel and not put down any roots. I think this is the first secret baby book I have read where the woman wants to give the baby up for adoption and I loved that it wasn’t as cut and dry as other books are.

Personal takeaways – Seriously, ten year plan?! I work in six month increments!

Along Came Love is the second entry into the Shades of Love series. It follows the events of the first book with Chelsea's foster sister India having a weekend fling with Adam's best friend Mike following their wedding. Three months later, while Chelsea and Adam are away on a late honeymoon, a pregnant India is forced to call Mike to bail her out of jail. She hadn't seen him since she snuck out on him after their weekend together and he's shocked to not only see her but to learn she's carrying his child.

India and Mike were an interesting couple. But India was kind of a mess. Her reasoning for doing certain things just kind of blew my mind. I mean, I get it. She had a traumatic childhood and is avoiding making bonds with people to avoid the chance that they'll leave her. And I get it. Mike is super controlling. But India really made things unnecessarily difficult at times.

Overall, the romance was still fun and you're happy to see this couple work things out. But it wasn't quite as good as the first book because the characters weren't quite as likeable.
