It had been a long week in the Between Place. Adam had been on-shift at the Center for the Newly Crossed Over three days out of the last five. He’d settled chara after chara, giving them the same speech that he’d been given by Marjoram McCrea when he’d first arrived. It was the least he could do. The Between Place had been very welcoming to him and for Silas. Learning that they’d been created in a world written by K.S. Kingslayer for the two of them had been a shock. All the side characters and things they’d seen there had been window-dressing in Kingslayer’s book By Mage’s Might. Adam had bonded with his fellow love interests, the hunky-as-expected men, the way-too-understanding women, and the distressingly few non-binary folk fairly quickly. K.S. Kingslayer had described Adam as a loner. Now that he was no longer confined by their writing, however, he found that he actually liked most other people. Unless they were rude to Silas. Then he’d never forgive them as long as he existed.
