Hey, Whiskey

Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

New standalone from NYT Bestselling Author Kaylee Ryan I’m over this year, and I’m over relationships. I’ve learned that the only person you can count on in life is yourself. Moving forward, I’m living for me. Working toward standing on my own two feet, that’s my goal. Funny how meeting him changed my path. It’s been years since I’ve been back in this small town of West Virginia for more than a day or two. Spending time here brings back a lot of fond memories. When I stopped by an old friend’s bar, I was expecting to grab a drink and catch up. What I didn’t expect was her. We share an undeniable attraction, but we continue to fight it. Until one night in Vegas changes everything.

I loved this book so much back when I read it in 2017! While I did still like it, I didn’t love it the second time around. There were details about it that didn’t fit into what I like in my romances now. This was a slow burnish romance and I stay far away from those. Also, I didn’t start to like either character until about 35% of the book.

Once we got to a bit over the middle mark, I started to see why I would have rated it so high. Once Saylor and Rhett got over their jabs and finally started to admit to themselves that they liked the other, we got the romance I was looking for. I liked how Rhett chased Saylor, no matter how much she put up her walls.

However, the best character here was Molly. She was so caring and amazing for helping Saylor. She saw the good in her and helped in a way that most people wouldn’t for someone that they didn’t know.

All in all, five years later, I can’t say it’s one of my favorites anymore, but the romance still put a smile on my face.
