There are missteps that could change your life – for ever ... A very special night, when something horrible happened, is etched into the memory of Matt Hunter. That is the night when he tried to seperate two people in a fight – and ended up as a murderer. Now nine years have passed since they let him out of jail. That he was innocently convicted is a fact forgotten by most people. He's an ex-con and has realized that he's goint to have to live with that brand. Still, his life is good these days. He's got a good job. He and his wife, Olivia, are expecting a child, and are looking for a house in his home town. But then Matt receives a shocking and unexplainable video call from Olivia's phone. Yet, the images that show his wife with another man in a hotelroom, is just the beginning of the nightmare to come. The man in the image is murdered, and so is a mysterious man which has been shadowing Matt for a long time. A devout and likeable nun is found choked to death in her bed within the monastery. And both local and national authorities, including murder investigator Loren Muse, who's an old friend of Matt from school, thinks that the trail points towards a former convict who already has one life on his conscience: Matt Hunter! Matt realizes he might once again be jailed for crimes he didn't commit. It doesn't help that his wife has lied to him – about everything. She has made up a whole life, but why? Matt sees no other solution than to do his own investigations in order to avoid once again being innocently convicted.
