Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

Nothing is more important to Blake Anderson than the work he does with his brothers at Ace Security. At least that’s what he thinks until he meets the fiercely independent Alexis Grant. The security firm’s new intern pushes all his buttons—and makes his temperature rise. But giving in to temptation might be risky business. Alexis can tell that Blake has his doubts about her ability to commit. But while most people look at her and see only a flighty rich girl, she knows he sees much more. Determined to prove herself to Blake, Alexis jumps at the chance to work undercover. And when her case takes a dangerous turn, she puts her trust—and her heart—in his hands. Now, as Alexis digs into the deadly secrets of a local gang, Blake will lay everything on the line to protect the woman he’s come to love.

I wasn’t feeling this book and I’m starting to wonder if this particular series is just not right for me. I know I’ll give it at least one more book because there is enough keeping my interest that I want to see how it plays out. The MMCs of the first three books are triplets so I at least want to see them all get their HEAs.

The characters are wonderful, which is part of the reason it’s hard to quit the series. Yet as wonderful as they are, I felt both Alexis and Blake made some decisions in this story that didn’t make sense for the characters as they had been presented in both the first book and this one. And while I like the couple together, I felt there was more telling than showing in this one.

There are some intense situations that Alexis gets herself into as she goes undercover. She reaches out to an old primary school friend who became a middle and high school bully to her so she can get the inside scoop on the gang that was hired to hurt Grace. The way she is bullied and used now, even as an adult, hurts my heart for her. Alexis is very resilient and I loved her character.

Even though there is a lot of telling, there is a bit of showing and it’s great when that happens. Blake and Alexis fit together well and I enjoyed how comfortable they were, especially once they admitted their feelings.
