Okay, it was hard for me to read this book. I managed to spoil myself this book and Archangel's War and I WAS NOT ready to suffer. But because I can't skip a book (that's just... wrong) I decided to suffer and read it.
Archangel's Prophecy is by far the saddest book of the Guild Hunter serie, however it wasn't as bad as what I thought. I'm not gonna spoil but my heart broke with Elena's and I wanted to scream at Nalini Singh to write this when we could have got a nice and happy book. The end is unexpected, the cliffhanger is good and I'm glad I read it now because I don't have to wait months to discover what happened to Elena.
It is one of the most important books of the series however I can't say I enjoyed it. First of all because it is a sad book, but also because like a quarter of the book is recaps of the other books. I know it's like that in almost every book of the serie but it is book 11 and there's still recaps of book 1. We don't need that, while recaps of book 9 or 10 might be necessary, we don't need recaps of what happened in Elena's entire life all the time. I'd rather read a book shorter than full of fillers no one cares about because we read this scene like 11 times.
I also couldn't see the point in Harrison's hunt (no that's not a spoiler): no one cares about him and it didn't really bring anything to the plot. I thought it would show how deep Beth and Elena's relationship is, but we barely see Beth in the book... Honestly I wished Harrison was a terrible person to make it interesting but NO it's not even the case. And the worst is that the hunt wouldn't have been necessary if Elena let her ego and suicidal behavior aside and let Raphael read through Harrison's mind.
Speaking of Elena's behavior, this woman has a serious problem. Aside from the fact that she definitely became a Mary-Sue and that sadly I doubt that will change in future books, her behavior is so stupid that she reminds me of one of the most stupid lead characters ever: Bella from Twilight (I swear I'm a Twilight fan). Girlie is literally dying but instead of spending time with her family and her lover (and no, sex isn't spending time with someone), she prefers hunting and for what?? Nothing except to make it worse. Someone needed to call Dmitri and let him bondage her to the bed, like he did in book 1. But sadly no one did so our favorite Mary-Sue was putting her life in jeopardy for the whole book and it looks like no one cared.
Finally, half of the things in the synopsis are barely talked about in the book even though they're directly linked to Lijuan and the Cascade. I wish we learnt more about it instead of reading recaps. Other characters are also absents, even the ones we're used to see often such as Dmitri. This book is focused on Elena, her thoughts and oh! Elena again! We see Raphael but less than in other books which again, makes no sense since the love of his life is dying.
I know I said a lot of negative things but it is still a very good book. But compared to some of the other ones, I felt like it was lacking and could have been way better as, as I said, it is one of the most important books of the serie. I won't read it again and it is probably one of the books I liked the less but I will keep reading the Guild Hunter serie because I really enjoy it.
