Recs if you like Dragonflight ...

A list of First books in Fantasy series (or standalones) published in 1980s-2000s written by female authors. Many of these authors are/were prolific writers so most additions are limited to their debut book or most popular series. Go read more by these authors!

Fantasy titles that have become foundational to the genre and/or that are considered fantasy classics, written by women. Always open to suggestions!

Series starting points for getting into some of the most prolific women authors in sci-fi and fantasy from the 70s-00s.

f*ck misogyny, women write epic fantasy too

Books in this list are in at least two quests. Thus helping to earn more badges. Books will span different genres. Once I scan through all the quests, I plan to further organize the list. I am thinking of creating a seperate list and moving the books with three or more quests to the new list and keeping the two badge books in this list. Are there other ways you would organize a list this big?

I know there are a couple other dragon lists out there, but a lot of them were missing some of my favourites, so I'm just making my own!

These books the dragons will play a significant role in the plot, even if the focus of the book isn't dragons themselves (like the Hobbit).

For books in a series, I'll only be adding the first one.

Feel free to drop suggestions! I'm trying to include all the dragon books I can.

Overlooked, lesser known classics from all over the world and of many genres.

This list also exists as a book club on Fable under the same name.

A compendium of books featuring dragons

Just an absolute butt-tonne of dragon books, baby!!

Non-exhaustive list of foundational reading for the fantasy genre; either foundational texts or classics that influenced the development of the genre and its conventions. Also some key modern texts + criticism.

Enter the pseudo-medieval world of Pern, where dragons & their bonded riders live & work together to protect all from the destructive entity, Thread.

Publication order is arguably the best way for new readers to approach this series, and is the author's preference.

I've included Todd & Gigi McCaffrey's books.

See pinned comment for notes on order. Note esp that there are 3 multi-author compendiums in the list, to indicate the short stories within.

Dragons everywhere. From tiny, mischievous hatchlings to wise, ancient sky-soarers, these books are packed with scales, sparks, and heart. Expect warmth, wonder, and at least a little fire.

i love fantasy but really hate it when the dragon is evil. it's one thing to be greedy and selfish and want shiny things and be clever and kinda evil, it's another when they are dumb violent beasts :( they are my friends! also i created this list in hopes to keep adding new finds so pls feel free to suggest recs!

Not all dragons are book worms, but they love a good story.

Enter the pseudo-medieval world of Pern, where dragons & their bonded riders live & work together to protect all from the destructive entity, Thread.

I've enjoyed chrono reads of this series so much, as it lends a different perspective for fans doing re-reads! Worth doing at least once, for sure!

See pinned comment for notes on order. Chronological gets complex, so I summed it up as well as poss! Note esp that there are 3 compendiums in the list, to indicate the short stories.

Note: Only the first book in a series are added. The goal is to try it, not dedicate oneself to it. Marion Zimmer Bradley has been added with caution--buy from a small business if not able to check out at the library.

A list showing all the different books within the Dragon Riders of Pern universe. These are sorted by publication order, not chronological order. I'm doing it this way because that's the way the author recommended reading them!

YA and adult sci-fi/fantasy. Comment with suggestions!
