Penelope Fletcher

Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

Book One. Rae Wilder has problems. Supernatural creatures swarm the earth, and humanity is on the brink of extinction. Stalked by a handsome fairy who claims she is like him, demonkind, Rae thinks maybe it was a mistake breaking the rules by going over the Wall into demon territory. Plunged into a world of dark magics, fierce creatures, and ritual sacrifice, she is charged with a guarding a magical amulet. The changes to her mind and body are startling, but rather than accept her purpose she struggles against who she is destined to be. Throw in a big lust for a vampire who can't keep his hands off her, and life starts to get complicated. Rae is forced to make the ultimate choice: to live and die human, or embrace her birth-right and wield magics that could turn her into something wicked, a force of nature nothing can control. BrE.

A friend texted me today to tell me that she was reading Les Mis and that she was finding it really hard going. I responded to advise that i was "reading some tweeny young adult fairy crap. free kindle books have lowered my standards"

    Egads.

Don't pick up this book expecting Hugo. Don't even expect Meyer. If you are a fan of character and plot development, go somewhere else. If, on the other hand, you are a fan of vacuous heroines, bizarre love triangles and winged creatures of the forest; this is the very book for you!

Seriously, what the actual eff have I just read? Bella Cullen eat your heart out, finally I have found a female lead more useless than you!

Before anyone picks up this book, remember, the events unfolding seem to take place within a 24 hour window. There is too much crammed into too few pages.

I don't think there is a single well rounded character in this book and there certainly isn't a single character I like.

Rae Wilder is a 'ho for sho'. In the space of 24 hours she sprouts wings and cops off with not one but two different boys. the first of which seems over protective and possessive, the second over protective and side lined...ring box bells? maybe i should point out that these boys also appear to an mortal enemies?

Maybe I.m too old? I seriously don't understand the dynamic of these relationships..,or why being stalked is even appealing? Newsflash kids; love in real life isn't all meaningful stares and magical bonding. it's more like finding someone to split the bills with.

I definitely enjoyed this book, and look forward to reading the next one, however, it was really irritating to me that every time someone in the book said "hi" it was written as "hai" I don't know why, but it drove me absolutely batty and distracted me from the story.
