This is the second book in this series (world) and while you don't have to read the first one to understand and appreciate this one, it doesn't hurt either. Both are great stories!
Nina is in trouble and Nico has been assigned to protect her. But the easiest way for him to do that is to infiltrate the mafia and keep an eye on her from there. They try and fail to resist the attraction between them, especially when they are forced to spend a lot of time close together. There is a little bit of a protector syndrome when she finds out who he really is, but they talk about it like adults (can you imagine) and it's fine. For a fictitious situation, these two are the most realistic characters I have read.
