Recs if you like The Will of the Empress...

JK Rowling is a bigot who uses her platform to hurt transfolks and other marginalized groups (plus she literally just quoted Mein Kampf on the bird site). If you're still supporting her in 2025, don't bother talking to me.

Another resource for those looking for butches in books.

Disclaimer: I do not necessarily recommend all of these books. Please check out my page for reviews of the ones I’ve read!

It's Lesbian visibility week! Here are 100+ books starring lesbians! Includes some non-fiction about lesbian women. (This list is presented by Duck Prints Press, the indie publisher focused on publishing queer art and stories by queer creators! A group of us collaborate to make these recommendations.)

Lately I’ve been craving that old school fantasy, but much more diverse than what you’d generally think of when you think of old school fantasy. So this list will be queer epic/high fantasy full of high stakes adventure and perhaps magic, but specifically that has the VIBES. vibes are essential.

As a note I haven’t read all of these books yet but I am making my way through them, and if any of them are not the match I think they are I’ll remove them (or feel free to comment to let me know!)

July is Disability Pride Month! Here's a big pile of books with disabled characters. All the books also have at least one queer character, and in most cases, the queer character and the disabled character are one and the same. (There are a few non-fiction titles in the mix as well; representation for queerness may be subtext/interpreted). (This list is presented by Duck Prints Press, the indie publisher focused on publishing queer art and stories by queer creators! A group of us collaborate to make these recommendations.)

Happy International Women's Day! Have a huge pile of our favorite books starring queer women (fiction and non-fiction!). Tamora Pierce’s books set in the world of Emmelan. You can start at the beginning, meeting the characters early in their lives, or accidentally jump into the later books (as I did) and still enjoy yourself. Battle Magic and The Will of the Empress are personal favorites and very fun on their own.

Explore the world of Emelan in Tamora Pierce’s Circle of Magic series as Sandry, Daja, Briar, and Tris learn about their unusual magic and set out to improve the world around them.
