Harborside Nights is a sexy, hot, and evocatively real new adult contemporary romance series that follows a group of friends who come together after college--and tragedy--to build their lives. They're tough, edgy, and accepting--most of the time. Wyatt My summer plans didn’t include falling for my best friend I never imagined that instead of celebrating my college graduation and spending the summer in Harborside partying with my friends, my twin sister and I would be dealing with the death of our parents and taking over their bar. I’ve never been one to think past tomorrow. How am I supposed to run a freaking bar? Now more than ever, I need my best friend, Cassidy, by my side. The trouble is, the more we’re together, the more I want to kiss her, and when I do, I won’t want to stop there. Cassidy A summer of grief, growing up, and…losing my best friend? Wyatt has always been there for me, helping me pass my classes and fending off unwanted advances, while driving me insane with his one-night stands. But that's what best friends are for, isn't it? Having each other's backs, no matter what? There was never any doubt that I’d remain by his side all summer, but I didn’t expect to start seeing the six-two, infuriatingly-handsome, shameless flirt as more than a friend. He may be a sure thing for the summer, but I need more. I’ve got a real job in another city to begin in the fall, and I won’t give up my future, or my heart, for a summer fling. This is the first is an off-shoot series from the original Love in Bloom series. If you're hoping to see any of our old friends, there is a VERY brief appearance by Dane Braden and Lacy. But don't let that stop you for picking this one up, it still has tons of love and friendship like all of Melissa Foster's books.

As this was an introductory book, we not only had our central hero and heroine, Wyatt and Cassidy, but all of their circle of friends we got to meet and get to know. In any other author's hands this may have turned into a jumbled mess of confusion. Somehow, Ms. Foster pulled it off. And even better, in my mind anyway, she's dipping into some "alternative" love styles. She's smart in how she's going about this process though. This story is a heterosexual love story at its core, but we are introduced to gay, lesbian and bisexual characters that may or may not get their own stories later on down the road.

The overall tone of this book is much more somber than the other books I've read by this author. I was afraid it would turn me off from the story. I was actually looking for something fun and lighthearted when I picked it up. It was well enough written that I couldn't put it down, though.

I'm curious to see how the author will handle her foray into writing romance dealing with LGBT characters. And I'm hoping her readers will stand by her and she can gain new readers with this new series.
