Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

Does true love exist or is it merely a fairytale for the lonely? I don’t think I’ll ever forgive my mother. She abandoned my father and I when I was little to play house with her new family. Now that he’s gone, she’s asking me to come down to a ranch in the middle of nowhere to make amends. Then she sends Duke West to pick me up from the airport. This cowboy is hot enough to convince me to stay on the ranch for a few days, but it won’t change anything. I’ll take a break and go right back to New York where I can forget any of this ever happened. Only... Duke is a man whose presence simply demands to be remembered. Ranch Escape is a series packed with action, high heat and lots of passion where love comes from an unexpected place and fights to grow stronger. Enjoy! A great beginning to a new serial series by Ella Cooper. Things you need to know about these stories: they're short, spicy and almost always end with a cliffhanger. This one is no exception to any of those!

Annie flies to Arizona to visit the ranch where her mother is living with her stepfather, stepbrother and half-sister. She hasn't seen eye to eye with her mother for a long time, really since the breakup of her parents' marriage, even though she was really young when that happened. Her mother has always told her there is more to the story, but she doesn't want to tell her everything until she is sure that she is ready. Annie is hoping that this trip will prepare her to hear what her mother needs to tell her.

When she arrives in Arizona, Annie is picked up by Duke who lives and works at the ranch. He is also best friends to Annie's stepbrother, Dalton. To say he is less than impressed by Annie is an understatement. He thinks she's stuck up and snooty, even if she's beautiful. I guess proximity makes a difference, though, because pretty soon they are hooking up, although it seems like a one-time thing. After hearing the truth from her mother, Annie asks for time to think. Soon she's decided she needs to run and asks Duke to take her to the airport. On the way, something happens and now I'm anxiously awaiting book 2.
