Banned books are books that have been prohibited or had its free access restricted by an authority—the government, school system or religious group—because they object to its content, ideas or themes. Banning a book is a form of censorship. The list is bound to not contain everything since the number is astronomical but feel free to suggest :]

Fuck censorship! This is not in support of this group but to bring awareness of their actions. Started by Cierra Clarke of Twin Falls, Idaho Moms for Liberty has challenged more than 95 books in the districts collection, two of which have been removed. This is a list of the books challenged as of 2026.

All of these are from the list that Texas lawmaker Matt Krause in October of 2021 tried and in many cases succeeded to get banned from classrooms and school libraries. There are quite a few interesting and odd choices in there which is part of why I wanted to share this list on here. Not necessarily recommendations but there are some pretty good books on here. As well as a lot of textbooks

In October 2021, Texas State Representative Matt Krause initiated an inquiry targeting a list of approximately 850 books in Texas public schools, alleging they could cause "discomfort, guilt, anguish, or any other form of psychological distress" regarding race or sex. The list disproportionately targeted LGBTQ+ topics, race/racism, and sex education.

This is my project to read through this list for myself - utilizing my local library system for access to these titles. Follow the journey or join along!

As the romance genre has increased in popularity so have the attempts to ban it, often due to LGBTQIA+ themes or explicate content. Decreasing the stigma around sex and show casing both good and bad romantic and sexual scenarios is essential in helping people (especially women) navigate their lives and get the information they needs. So, whether you're a romance fanatic or spicy scenes aren't really your thing, here is a list of banned or challenged romance books. Recs welcome
