You’ve been his for years, and I respected it. Maintained my distance. Kept my silence. My secret. Until that night you came to me, disillusioned, angry and hurt. God helps us both, but I crossed my carefully drawn line before you left, disappeared. Now, you’re back, and my need for you is a beast that hasn’t been fed and has grown hungrier in the years since I’ve seen you. I remind myself we can’t be more than friends, that you’re off-limits to me. But it doesn’t stop me from secretly craving what can never be mine. You. My fantasy. My sin. My joy. My regret. My best friend’s woman. Jessie’s girl.

My primary problem with this book is that I had That Song running through my head every time I read it.
India is, as the title says, Jessie's girl. Jessie is a friend. Jessie is a good friend of Asa. And Asa has been pushing down his lust for India their entire friendship out of respect for Jessie.
Anyway. Asa and India combust in the first chapter then don't see each other for two years. It's an intensely physical, longing driven story with emotional complexities. There's a 10 year old with behavior issues who inadvertently brings Asa and India back together.
It's a short and fulfilling read.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
