if so, this list is for you :)

a masterlist of horror by anyone who isn't a straight cis white man. i've been maintaining it for myself since 2022 and it was time to share the wealth!

“Tao po!” (“I’m human!”) is a greeting used to check if someone’s home. It originated from a pre-colonial belief that monsters, or aswang, couldn’t imitate speech. People would call out “Tao po, hindi aswang!” (“I’m human, not a monster!”) to reassure homeowners and to be invited inside. If a visitor knocks without speaking, beware! This list features Filipino horror and supernatural novels, where horror is not only from monsters and magic, but also from the grim realities of Filipino society.

A collection of horror books without animal death/cruelty since it is prevalent in the genre! These books will avoid graphic scenes with animals and cruelty. Animal bones may be present, let me know if you need to know which ones. Suggestions welcome and if I am mistaken about the content let me know and I will remove!

Books in this list are in at least two quests. Thus helping to earn more badges. Books will span different genres. Once I scan through all the quests, I plan to further organize the list. I am thinking of creating a seperate list and moving the books with three or more quests to the new list and keeping the two badge books in this list. I started this list based on feedback from the community, my sincere gratitude for all the feedback 🙂‍↕️ I got so many replies to a request, I thought they need to be documented for everyone. Will be adding books I read; more recs are always welcome as well. Trans, enby, anyone not cis writing horror stories about not-cis MCs may join these ranks.
