This list is just a point to start from if you want to dip your toes into Danmei 🥰

I’m an international fan, so this list prioritizes works that have been published in English and that are popular in international spaces. I’ve not read all these, but I’m certainly gonna try!!

what happens after death? rebirth or transmigration, rebirth or transmigration.

✧ [穿越]: most known for its japanese equal "isekai", transmigration is a widely used trope in danmei where the protagonist dies and wakes up in another body.

the transmigration can occur to a character in a novel the protagonist was reading before dying [穿书], to another body that just also died [借尸还魂] or even the protagonist himself in another universe.

✧ [仙侠]: the most popular genre, its narrative is set in a mythical Ancient China. The key points in xianxia novels are the spiritual cultivation of qi to pursue immortality or transcendence, the existence of sects/clans, and the presence of supernatural elements/entities.
