Skin (Flesh, #2)

Kylie Scott

Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

Six months since the zombie plague struck, former librarian Roslyn Stewart has been holed up in a school with eight other survivors. But now the shelves in the school canteen are bare. The stranger at the gate has supplies that will ensure the group’s ongoing survival but at a cost. He wants a woman. Nick is a man with a plan. He’ll treat Roslyn like a Queen, devoting the rest of his life to protecting and providing for her. In exchange, of course, for sexual favors. It’s the deal of the century given the state of the world. But Roslyn doesn’t see it that way. The first chance she gets she attacks the ex-army man and attempts to escape, forcing Nick to contain her. And so begins his awkward courtship of the woman, with her chained to the bed for security reasons. Chained like a dog and forced to spend her every waking moment with a creep, albeit a good-looking one, Ros is determined to escape. When circumstances force them to band together against a common enemy their very survival depends on their ability to learn to trust each other. An uneasy partnership develops, but can a relationship with such a difficult beginning ever have a future?

    Moar zombiesssssss!

Roslyn has been traded by her fellow roomies to Nick for food and weapons. Niiiiice. I hope these people end up with really bad hemorrhoids because they don't make Tucks any more because of the Zombiepocalypse. And they can't find any roughage to eat so they feel like they're pooping razor blades for the rest of their short miserable lives. Or maybe I'm just fixated on feces. It could be that.

Ennyway, Nick tries to be nice, but c'mon--Roslyn knows why he wants her. She's a librarian, not some dumba** executive assistant like...like...me. Though I think I'm pretty smart, so I wouldn't waste half the book trying to get away from him like Ros does. Time is short! There are zombies out there that want to eat you out and not in the good way. So who's the dumba** now, huh?!

So, yeah, Ros spends most of her time trying to escape, finally does, but then turns back, only to get stuck in a zombie ambush. Nick saves her, but in the meantime, their safe haven has burned down because of all these shenanigans.

Again I say...who's the dumba** now?! If Ros had stayed all cozy in bed with Hot Nick's peen like I would have--me, the lowly executive assistant--they would not be on the run. They would be doing it. And doing it. And doing it. And Nick's prepared, so he probably had some roughage stashed away as well. Never, ever underestimate your friendly, local assistant. We have some mad skills.

Nick decides to take Ros to that town from the "Flesh" book, but since he was kind of an ass there, their welcome is not all that friendly. More zombies and fighting ensue, yet Scott, the master, is able to sneak in some anal. Now THAT'S a mark of greatness in an author.

Most of this story was spent with Ros fighting Nick and him trying to woo her over, and, yeah, it bugged me a little--I get that she was his captive. Who wouldn't be pissed? However, she's lucky she didn't get traded to a fat Jack Nicholson or something. You want to get a little anal from THAT?

All I know is that you do want THIS, so do THAT downloading thing.

Wow, Scott just dives head first into some. Wry problematic power dynamics.
