New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh returns to her world of angelic rulers, vampiric servants, and the woman thrust into their darkly seductive world… Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux wakes from a year-long coma to find herself changed—an angel with wings the colors of midnight and dawn—but her fragile body needs time to heal before she can take flight. Her lover, the stunningly dangerous archangel Raphael, is used to being in control—even when it comes to the woman he considers his own. But Elena has never done well with authority… They’ve barely begun to understand each other when Raphael receives an invitation to a ball from the archangel Lijuan. To refuse would be a sign of fatal weakness, so Raphael must ready Elena for the flight to Beijing—and to the nightmare that awaits them there. Ancient and without conscience, Lijuan holds a power that lies with the dead. And she has organized the most perfect and most vicious of welcomes for Elena…

I didn't love this one quite as much as book 1 but I'm still really loving this series. Overall this one just dragged a little. The majority of this book is Elena training and learning the inner workings of the angelic politics. While I that interesting, I did struggle to keep the dozens of characters straight (I still don't have a solid grasp of who everyone is and how they're related). But Nalini Singh's writing is so captivating that I still never wanted to put this down despite there being minimal action. I'm enjoying watching the main relationship progress and I'm excited to see how it evolves over the next few books (I've heard it just keeps getting better!).
I just didn't love how this entire book felt like it was building up to this big moment/face off and the entire thing was over in about 20 pages. I wish there had been a little less build up, and a little more time spent on big reveal and battle.

Books 3 & 4 are on my February TBR and I can't wait to start them!

I enjoyed this continuation of Elena and Raphael's story, but, compared to the first book, it was very slow and rather uneventful. I realize a lot of that is because she is recuperating, but even the ending was a bit of an anti-climatic let down. The big secret is revealed and dealt with in about 20 words or less. Lets hope Archangel's Consort has more story and a quicker pacing.

I didn't hate this, but it definitely has the second book issues of pacing and plot development. I feel like we were getting a lot of extra info that is going to come up in the rest of the series.
