Recs if you like Always Coming Home...
The Anthropocene, As Seen Through SFF
SFF featuring second worlds and storytelling that reflect and engage with hopes, anxieties, and imaginations about human activity and its influence on the environment + environmental justice. Always open to suggestions! (Note that I am using “second world” very loosely here, to mean both traditional second worlds and/or versions of Earth or parts of Earth that are so distant/strange as to be unrecognizable)
Positive post-capitalist books
Someone made a post about this and I thought it was a great list idea. I know I really need books that have more positivity and hope for the future, so hopefully this will help someone else too.
Let me know if I get anything wrong. Please comment recommendations!
But WAIT. There’s hope. ✨FICTION✨
Straight from the Solarpunk Manifesto, “We are solarpunks because the only other options are denial or despair.”
What if there’s more to our future? What if we were optimistic?
Below are the fiction books that have made it to O.E. Tearmann’s Open List of Positive and Hopeful Futures
I’ll make another list for the nonfiction and for the anthologies. Feel free to suggest any recs!
An Ursula K. Le Guin bibliography
All of Ursula K. Le Guin's major works. Not exhaustive due to some writing being hard to source sadly. Still a work in progress!
The End & After ☣ No Cis-Male Authors Allowed
If you ask someone what apocalyptic or post-apocalyptic fiction they've read, there's a fair chance much of that list will have been written by cis men, because they're the books that get the most promotion in the genre.
My hope is that this list will help someone find a new favourite author! ♡
Sister list to: Zombie Apocs - No Cis-Male Authors Allowed
First of a series only
Suggestions so welcome, particularly for trans, enby, & other authors of marginalised genders

Books That Break The Rules
Books that ignore the traditional way of telling a story. These books tell their stories in unexpected ways, through letters, transcripts, diaries, documents, text messages, or unconventional layouts.
California Dreamin'
I know there are already several lists with a California theme, but I am hoping this acts as a syllabus of sorts for books that deal with the core myth, history, violence, dream, and contradiction of California. Suggestions are welcome!
It’s the end of the world as we know it…
Pre-, early and post- apocalyptic dystopias
It's The End Of The World As We Know It (Fiction)
Books that are set in worlds that are either in the midst of facing world ending catastrophes or shortly there after. This list focuses on books that show how humans evolve and survive given the new circumstances they're in.
As always, open to suggestions for additions to the list! 🙂
Solarpunk
Ursula K. Le Guin Master List
Cli-fi/Eco-Fiction
Fiction that deals with climate change. Books may take place in the world as we know it, in the near future, or in fictional worlds experiencing climate change.
D20 Gladlands
Mini Dimension 20 series set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland where empathy rules and kindness matters when helping community survive. From blood drives to sunken malls, you have such complex characters that brought me to tears (i cry a lot but truly a beautiful conversation about grief). Found family, community, and grief all come together in this survival season. These books do not guarantee a care bear feeling.
Lady Writers To Prioritize
This is based on a lot of best list researching and only some of my own opinions. It is mostly a wish to read list. Please add your best lady writer picks so we can all have an army of lady writers to recommend to each other and celebrate!
As The World Caves In
apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic fiction
Fictions anarchistes
