YA novels with mental health representation.

I'm an INFP and for me books that would speak to an INFP soul are either/or cozy, emotional, cottagecore, introspective, and lyrical. Not all of these books have every single thing. But I think they might speak to you if you're INFP!

I asked Pagebound for books with a book inside the book. The following list is made up out of those recommendations. In some of them the MC is writing or reading a book that you also get to read, in others it is short stories or oral histories. In all of them, you get more then just one story. I have not read all of these books. I am open to more recommendations.

NB The Book of Counted Sorrows by Dean Koontz is often referenced is his other works and only later was actually written.

Although I'm a firm believer in re-reading books when you're in a slump, I know some of you prefer to read a fresh book to get out of it. So here are books that I think you should give a chance, if you haven't done so yet, to get out of a slump! (Please note that I'm not adding all the books of a series, just the first book.)

Memoirs, psychology texts, reference papers, workbooks and novels... if those things are a primary focus of the text, it's going here.

Young Adult books with a focus on mental health — named or unnamed.

Middle grade and YA novels whose main characters are artists. Recommendations are always welcome — the only requirement is that the main character must be some sort of artist (painters, writers, dancers, musicians, chefs, and more are all acceptable) and that their love of art must play a key role in the plot.

When you are looking for a good book, as well as a good cry, these are the ones for you!

These books represent characters who feel disconnected, alone or isolated. They experience neglect, exclusion or loneliness due to varying reasons. Multiple genres included. Beware of triggers.
