This story is a delight! My introduction to this author was her Highland Brides series; this story was as wacky and fun as those books. Even the title makes me laugh.
Emma may seem innocent, but in many ways, Amaury is also innocent. They were raised very differently, yet neither was raised with any practical knowledge of marriage. This means there are many misunderstandings, especially on Emma’s part, and hurt feelings as they try to wade through being newlywed to a virtual stranger. Yet they are attracted to each other and there is a definite spark when they are together.
Not only are Emma and Amaury trying to figure out their relationship, but there seems to be someone trying to kill Amaury. Of course, this being a Lynsay Sands book, hijinks ensue. There are conks to the head, stab wounds, arrows being shot, poison, shady family members, etc. As much as these two can drive each other crazy, there is no way they are going to let the other get hurt.
While I wasn’t overly impressed with the narration of the audiobook, it wasn’t bad. I wish the narrator had done a better job of distinguishing the voices of the different characters, but the story is easy to follow so it didn’t end up being as big a problem as I first thought it would be.
I’ve only read one of this author’s books from the Argeneau series and found it so-so. If that series is your only experience with her and you enjoy bonkers medieval romances, give this a try. I guarantee you’ll be laughing before you finish the prologue.
